PostSecret is a fantastic website, series of books and movement to check out. I discovered it doing research for Epiphany and am in love with it…it is fascinating and the books are gorgeous and make any coffee table look cool and are fabulous gifts for anyone who likes quirky, unique things. There are all kinds of copy-cat projects like it now (saw an art installation at SXSW 2018 that was exactly the same premise) but PostSecret was the original art project that had people make up anonymous postcards with one of their most tightly held secrets and send them in to him. PostSecrets posts them every Sunday.

Here’s the skinny: Frank Warren, artist, speaker (check out his TED talk) and author, as a community art project handed out postcards to strangers and left blank postcards in public places asking people to write down a secret they had never told anyone and mail it in to him, anonymously. The response was overwhelming and has remained so for years. The cards are works of art…truly, it is remarkable. The thoughts expressed on the cards range from funny to heartbreaking to frightening. Reading and experiencing these public yet anonymous private thoughts is like touching a raw nerve of humanity, and you can’t help but think about yours and how very different and at the same time similar, all of our various journeys are…and I bet you at least think about the secret that you’d send in — or even better, you’ll actually be inspired to be part of the project that is helping people around the world with things like avoiding suicide, fighting depression, not feeling so alone, relieving the burden of guilt and/or holding a secret, laughter and, of course, sparking all kinds of epiphanies.
