Laurian Scott describes herself as, “first and foremost, wife to John and mother to three beautiful children, Aslan, Thisbe, and Noah.” Formerly a copywriter, freelance writer, and story analyst for feature films, today she lectures across the country on behalf of her family’s foundation, the Olive Branch Fund: A Thisbe and Noah Scott Legacy, including keynote speaking engagements in health care forums. She also advocates for families affected by Brown-Vialetto-Van Laere (BVVL) syndrome as the director of patient outreach and is the international spokeswoman for BVVL International. She is the co-owner of ETS Publish ing House and author of the children’s book Thisbe’s Promise, inspired by her daughter, and is currently working on a book inspired by her son. The Interview
My sister suggested that I contact John, Laurian’s husband, about being interviewed for the project. Skip, as we call him, used to date my sister and I love him, but we hadn’t spoken in forever. When we got in contact, it was great to reconnect, but very hard to hear what he and his family have been through. He encouraged me to speak with his wife, Laurian, about her epiphany. She and I had never so much as said hello, but she was graciously open, honest, and vulnerable. I have not been able to stop thinking about the Scotts and what they have accomplished in the midst of debilitating grief, driven by a fierce love for their children and for other families and children in the world.
